                           SUB-TROPICAL-MIDLATE

History:

The variety has been developed by the cross of CoS8436xCo89003 and released for sub-tropical India and recommended for release and cultivation in the states of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttrakhand and Western and Central Uttar Pradesh.

General Apperance

                                          

Tall, erect. Non-lodging, non-flowering, heavy yielding, medium thick, purple colored canes, leaf carriage abundant and leaves with curved tips.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Habit: Erect

Leaf: Dark green lamina, purple leaf with medium clasping, no spiries, deltoid ligule, incipient auricle and light brown dewlap.

Cane: Cylinadrical, thick, purple colored canes with some corky patches and light ivory, bud groovs indicated. Lamina dark green color, purple leaf sheath. Medium sized. Round buds with indication of bud groove, bud tip below the medium sized growth ring and yellowish green colored, root xone with 2-3 rows of root eyes. The internode is oval.

 Breeding and Agronomic Characteristics

A vigorous heavy yielding, medium thick variety fairly good in tillering and good sucrose and recovery. The clone is tolerant to low temperature conditions and a good winter ratooner.

Pest and Disease reaction

Resistant to red rot and tolerant to water logging.
